Covid-19 & Food supply chain

The European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Food Safety has published a document that seeks to answer key questions facing food operators in the light of the COVID-19 epidemic. The document has been drafted in consultation with Member States and stakeholders and looks at, among other areas, infection risk from food products and food packaging, "virus-free" certificates and lockdown effects on food hygiene. The EU Commission document further presents the various recommendations across Member States, and provides other sources of information

In addition, the  World Health Organisation (WHO) has published a respective document related to the food supply chain – from production to consumption, upon the urgent requirement for the industry to ensure compliance with measures to protect food workers from contacting COVID-19, to prevent exposure to or transmission of the virus, and to strengthen food hygiene and  sanitation practices.

The purpose of these guidelines is to highlight additional measures so that the integrity of the food chain is maintained, and that adequate and safe food supplies are available for consumers
